Yesterday I once again caught my twelve year old daughter wearing makeup. It was really very little makeup – just some mascara – but because she sneaks makeup off to school and puts it on when she gets there, she isn’t allowed to wear it. I have a hard time explaining the rules of this to her. It’s not about her age or about specific make-up that she wears. The reality is that she simply does not know how to apply it and looks really dumb in the end. So, using bully standards, if I was a kid her age I would make fun of her. I think this means I’m saving her trouble, but I’m not sure.
Because I’ve run out of ways to punish her for this, I told her that she had to write an essay about kids and makeup:
Kids shouldn’t wear make-up. Why? Because make-up intends sexual intentions. You should only wear make up when your an adult. Here are some other reasons why.
Sometimes, kids wear make-up to feel pretty/prettier. It’s not a very good reason though. You should be content with your natural looks. You don’t need make-up to make you beautiful.
Another reason kids use it is to look older. This is too a bad reason. You shouldn’t be in a hurry to grow up. Stay young while you still can, it goes by fast!
None of these are good reasons to wear make-up. Who cares about looks or acne? Don’t cover up your true beauty. Besides, if your younger than 18 you shouldn’t be wearing it in the first place.

Just got the ‘breaking news’ that Gov. Schwarzenegger’s furlough order was temporarily approved by the judge. As a government employee effected by all this let me tell you — I really want the furlough day. To have random Friday’s off of work to do the things that people need to do during work hours (like doctors or dentist appointments or cleaning the house and laundry!) is a wonderful thing. Realistically, if this didn’t go through he would have just laid us all off anyway.
